Gran Cerdo Blanco 2023 is a fresh, zippy natural white wine with a proper lift of citrus, orchard fruits, and a lively, moreish finish. Bursting with notes of green apple, pear, peach and lemon zest, it’s dry and light-bodied, with a nice little mineral snap and clean acidity that keeps things refreshing from first sip to last.
There’s a subtle floral lift and a silky texture that gives it just enough roundness without losing that crisp edge. It's fun, fresh, organic white wine from Rioja, made with minimal intervention and maximum flavour, it’s a go-to bottle for easy drinking, good food, and better company.
Food pairing ideas:
Fab with grilled prawns or garlicky calamari
Bang-on with goat’s cheese salad or green olives
Try it with light tapas, veggie paella or fish tacos
"This is a great gateway into the kind of natural wine we love. A fresh, clean and well-made white that is very appealing. Give this a try with a plate of crispy fried whitebait."
Gran Cerdo (Spanish for “Big Pig”) comes from Gonzalo Gonzalo Grijalba, a passionate natural winemaker from Rioja who’s spent his life doing things differently. After seeing the impact of chemicals on his father’s vineyard, he turned his back on industrial farming and now works organically and biodynamically, with zero pesticides, herbicides or synthetic nonsense.
The name and label are a cheeky dig at the bankers who refused to fund his dream, claiming wine wasn’t a real asset. Their loss.
The 2023 vintage blends about 80% Viura with the remaining 20% made up of other white grapes like Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, depending on the year. Grapes are hand-harvested, wild-fermented with native yeasts, and bottled unfiltered, unfined and with barely any sulphur. It’s proper natural wine: alive, vibrant, and a bit unpredictable – in the best way.
