German Riesling Discovery Trio

Get to know: German Riesling Discovery Trio

Description

As part of our month long celebration of Germany's most important grape variety we've put together three of our favourite dry to off-dry Rieslings. These are wines which offer a lot of zesty refreshment and fruit flavour and would appeal to fans of Albarino and Vinho Verde. Whether you already love Riesling or are looking to discover this grape, this set is a great choice.

Kate Says

"This trio is perfect for summer drinking. These wines are dry, zesty and super refreshing. The Deep Roots is racy and fresh, the Hanewald is riper and fruity while the Axel Pauly is richer and beautifully balanced. They work well with spicy foods and zingy marinades too."

What's inside?

Deep Roots, Riesling Trocken 2021, Rheinhessen, 12%

A superb dry Riesling from Germany that delivers aromas of fresh green apple and pear. A racy acidity that makes your mouth water and keeps you wanting more. This wine makes a great aperitif or freshener between courses but can be equally enjoyed on its own on a hot summers day.

Hanewald-Schwerdt, Riesling "Auf Der Pochel" Trocken 2021, Pfalz, 12.5%

Dry Riesling with citrus & stone fruit aromas with nuances of melons and herbs. Silky, lively with nice acidity. Really great quality stuff. Look beyond the unnassuming label you're in for a treat.

Try this one with pork belly with apple sauce.

Axel Pauly, Generations Riesling Feinherb 2022, Mosel 10.5% Vegan

This is a great introduction to the wines of the Mosel. Generations' Riesling was harvested from the family's steeply sloping vineyard in Lieser. This is an off-dry style white. Fresh hay aromas mingle with lemon citrus, pear and melon fruits. The sweetness and high acidity are well balanced, with a dry finish. On the palate, the wine is tangy, with subtle fruits and a hint of minerality.

This would be delicious with a slightly spicy thai stir-fry.
