Domaine Philippe Livera is one of the most exciting and authentic voices in modern GevreyChambertin. Now run by Damien Livera, the fourth generation, the domaine has undergone a complete qualitative transformation since 2007, moving from selling grapes to négociants to producing some of the most characterful, terroirdriven wines in the Côte de Nuits. Damien’s rigorous vineyard work — low yields, no herbicides, manual soil cultivation and sustainable farming — combined with cold, traditional cellars and long, slow fermentations, has made the estate a favourite among Burgundy insiders. Older vines planted in the 1950s, 1960s, and even earlier shape wines of depth, refinement and clear Gevrey identity.
The “Clos Village” is from an ancient parcel planted mainly with 70+ year old vines, some rows dating back to 1935 and 1920. This exceptional terroir of fossilrich and scree produces a wine leaning towards darkfruited power, precision and natural elegance.
Every year this wine impresses and for 2024 the qualities of the vintage will demonstrate Damien’s skills.
