Domaine Christian Moreau is one of the oldest and most respected names in Chablis, with a family history stretching back over six generations to 1814. Christian’s son Fabien has elevated the domaine to the top ranks of Chablis through meticulous organic farming and a deep respect for the region’s iconic Kimmeridgian limestone terroir. Since reclaiming their vineyards and relaunching the domaine in 2002, the Moreau family has focused entirely on estate-grown wines, hand-harvesting all fruit and vinifying each parcel with precision and purity. Their vineyard holdings are extraordinary: 6ha of Grand Cru across Les Clos, Clos des Hospices (a family monopole), Valmur, Vaudésir and Blanchot — some of the greatest terroirs in all of Chablis.
In the hands of Fabien, the wines combine crystalline precision with depth, texture and ageworthy structure — qualities that have led critics to place this domaine alongside the greats such as Raveneau and Dauvissat. With small production and severe frost losses in several recent years, availability is always extremely limited, and allocations sell out rapidly. This year, sadly, even more so. All his Grand Crus have been blended together. We are lucky to have any at all if I’m honest. For that reason, I’m including the 2023 we have left AND a little extra treat. These are wines for true fans of Chablis, and I include myself in those.
