Remi inherited a small estate in Morey Saint Denis, in the Cotes de Nuits. After twenty years working alongside his father, the family vineyards were divided between him and his brother. Today he farms over 7 ha of old vine (50-60+ years old) Pinot Noir across Morey St Denis, Gevrey Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. Rémi’s approach is rooted firmly in sustainable, minimal intervention viticulture: no chemical fertilisers, regular vineyard work to avoid soil compaction, strict yield control through spring, pruning and green harvesting, and entirely manual picking with rigorous sorting. In the cellar, fermentation uses only native yeasts, wines are aged gently in oak with restrained new wood, and bottling is done without fining or filtration and with very low SO₂ to preserve purity and freshness.
Remi’s wines are authentic, soulful and superbly crafted. This year I think they’re stunning. The Morey Saint Denis Vielles Vignes is already generous with beautifully fresh red berry fruit moving on to savoury/umami then a little spice to finish with great focus on tannin/acidity combo. Even at that level, there is elegance and progression. The 1er Les Ruchots really shows more depth and complexity, also tighter structure and this one should continue to evolve nicely over 5-10 years and more.
