The late Gilles Remoriquet
2024 was to be the last vintage Gilles will have made as he left us last summer. His wines aren’t the easiest to like and understand on first approach. But once you let time and patience do their thing, you are well rewarded. It’s definitely more Punk-Jazz than Pop music in that sense. Gilles was part of a sub-movement in Burgundy wine culture, his curiosity was as voracious as his attention to detail.
One of the first to promote gentler extraction, longer skin contact and slower fermentation. He pioneered Densimetric Sorting: removing under-ripe grapes by measuring their density and fermentation in concrete tanks rather than oak. He influenced generations of winemakers in the whole of Burgundy. He will be sorely missed and we are proud to have been able to show his wines over the last 5-6 years.

We still have some of Gilles’ Hautes Cotes de Nuits 2023 and Nuits-Saint-Georges 2023 so for 2024 I am securing some of his fancier cuvées as these will stand the test of time. The 2023 are somewhat riper in their fruit profile and for Remoriquet that means also more structure.
The Hautes Cotes de Nuits is pure fresh red berry pleasure, light on its feet yet showing beautiful mineral depth, a lovely core of fruit and hints of spice. The Nuit-Saint-George is more serious, denser, broader aromatically and longer and more persistent on the finish. They’re just about entering their drinking window. The 2024 are fresher but I’d say also more elegant and refined.
