Francesc Ricart, Cava Brut NV, 11.5% Spain
One of our favourite sparkling wines, this cava has a brilliant balance of aromatic peach and citrus fruit with the delicate honey and rich toasty depth that gives it a moreish drinkability. - Ideal for bucks fizz or pairing with poached eggs on toast, add a drizzle of truffled honey to up the decadence.
Adegas Laureatus, Reveleste Albarino, 12.5% Spain
Vibrant and zesty with citrus, tropical fruit, very subtle salinity and floral notes. On the palate it is light and fresh with lots of apple, peach, melon, lemon and mango fruit. There's a characteristic energy in the acidity and it leads to a crisp, zippy, dry finish.
Rioja Vega Tempranillo Blanco, 13.5% Spain
A beautiful take on a traditional white Rioja using an untypical grape from an historic producer. For us, this really delivers that richer, well balanced style with some complexity that’s really hard to get right, but when it works, it really sings. A treat to enjoy with turkey or salt cod croquettes.
Terres Fideles, Montsable Pinot Noir, 12.5% France, Vegan
An elegant and fresh Pinot Noir with from the cooler vineyards in the Haute Vallée d'L'Aude Altitude. Intense dark cherry and blackberry fruit on the nose, a rich round palate with notes of red summer fruits such as raspberry and more blackberry. Nicely integrated oak adds to the structure, and lends a spiciness to the long finish.
Baglio Gibelina, U... Passimiento, 13.5% Italy, Vegan
Gorgeous passimiento red wine that quickly wins over everyone who tries it. Bright intense red fruit on the nose displaying lots of sweet cherry and berry fruit. The palate is warm and full-bodied with harmonious acidity and smooth and elegant tannins. Pair with steak, lamb chops or mild cheeses.
Fonseca Port Bin 27 (37.5cl) (Half-bottle), Portugal
Made from a blend of reserve wines. This is intense, rich and fruity nose, full of pure blackberry, cassis, cherry and plum aromas intertwined with hints of spice. Perfect with a good farmhouse cheddar, it is also delicious with desserts made from dark chocolate or berry fruit.
Chateau Briatte, Sauternes 2019 (37.5cl) (Half-Bottle), France
A wonderfully expressive and effortless example of Sauternes sweet wine from a charming Family producer. The nose is full of aromatic apricot, apple orange peel, honey and beeswax notes. It leads to a palate with beautiful concentration and mouth coating texture particularly once its has time to open up. An amazing pairing with cheeses and fruit desserts.
Domaine Landreau, Cremant de Loire Brut NV, 12% France
Crémant is the name given to traditional method sparkling wines made outside of the Champagne region in France. This means you often get much better value for money as shown by this elegant example from the Loire. It's just great, really fresh at first then moreish.
La Levre Piquante, Picpoul de Pinet, 12% France
This is exactly what we look for in a good Picpoul. Bone dry, mouthwatering acidity, fresh, citrussy & impossible not to enjoy. There's a hint of elderflower and grapefruit, even an subtle hit of lychee supporting the lemony citrus core that gives it such a vivacious zing. Try this with oysters or crispy cod & garlic butter.
Tohu Sauvignon Blanc, 13.5% New Zealand
This vibrant wine displays aromas of passionfruit and citrus zest with notes of fresh herbs and green pepper. The concentrated palate is layered with flavours of sweet tropical fruit, bright lemon and lime, and crunchy green apple.
Astral de Chateau Puybarbe, 14.5% France, Vegan
Ripe bramble and cassis on the nose combined with some mint as well as vanilla and spice from the oak-aging. Delicious full-bodied wine with abundant fruit and soft acidity, grippy tannins. There’s complexity of aromas and taste that will improve by decanting for a couple of hours.
Bodegas Palacio, Glorioso Reserva, 14% Spain
This delicious Rioja Reserva was a big customer favourite at our inaugural focus group tasting. It is easy to see why with generous fruit and well-balanced oak giving complexity and a silky texture. I'd enjoy this simply with some grilled lamb chops.
