Get to know: La Levre Piquante, Picpoul de Pinet
Tasting Note
This is exactly what we look for in a good Picpoul. Bone dry, mouthwatering acidity, fresh, citrussy & impossible not to enjoy. There's a hint of elderflower and grapefruit, even an subtle hit of lychee supporting the lemony citrus core that gives it such a vivacious zing. Like the flowerbuds opening up in spring, this is a wine that wakes up your palate and leaves you wanting more.
Try this with oysters or crispy cod & garlic butter.
Kate Says
"This used to be the kind of wine you only found on holiday, but it's now become one of our bestsellers. It's fresh lively and vivacious and an easy choice for serving with seafood or just sipping in the garden."
Producer Info
In Languedocian dialect the word Picpoul litterally means "lip stinger", in reference to the wine's zippy acidity. In French proper the translation would be Levre Piquante. The wine is made by the sustainability focussed Ormarine, who with their 470 members have put this wine firmly on the map. Piquepoul blanc grapes are grown on the hills above the Med, just a stone's throw from the world famous Bassan de Thau Oyster Farms! The grapes are harvested in mid-September, fermented at a cool temperature in stainless steel and bottled soon after.
