New school year = new curriculum. We thoughtwe’d embrace that concept ourselves by taking you with us, on the wine journey. We knowfirst-hand that wine is one, if not THE most difficult “drink” to get your head around and many of us still feelsomewhat daunted by it. Some try to make it simpler, to “demystify”. But if you demystify wine, you’re reducing it to a magicless thing and thenreallyit’s no different to any other drink, something created, confected to suit a certain market need.
With that in mind, this Autumn,we’ll explore a bitwhat’s going on in the wine world at this time of year.Where, but also what, does wine come from? Why is itsomagical and fascinating?
Andwhat’s going right now in the life of wine? It’s harvest time, at least in the Northern Hemisphere.
The grapes that will make the 2025 vintage have been maturing and ripeningon the vines all around Europe, the US/Canada, and some parts of northern Asia (China, Japan, even India) over the summer. Nowit’s time to bring them in and transform them into this precious, fascinating liquid that has been lubricating our social lives for centuries.
What can you look forward to? What happens when, and how that affects the release of some wines between the Northern and Southern hemisphere. What we at Reserve Wines and in ourtrade we get up to (hint:it’s tasting season for us😊). We will look at what happens once the grapes arein, how different methods and cultures lead todifferent styles of wine.
For example, some of you might know that the concept of Beaujolais Nouveau was created to celebrate the very first wines being available mere weeks afterharvest. We'll be celebrating that story and more in this series. To ensure you have a glass of something wonderful to enjoy while you read, we've put together some superb wines in a Harvest case - available with a discount and free shipping.
