Another superb, modern Bordeaux from Chateau Puybarbe. Le Roc spends between 10 and 12 months in oak barrels, this helps to provide a medium body and structure somewhere between the Astral and their signature wine. Aa blend of Merlot 88% and Cabernet Sauvignon 12% gives plenty of fruit such as dark plum, blackcurrants which develop into a long spicy finish with black pepper and vanilla.
Great with bangers and mash or some Normandy Anduille sausage de vire if you want to take it up a notch.
"Chateau Puybarbe were introduced to our me back in the summer of 2020. It’s fair to say we were all astounded by the quality of the wines and the presentation. The labels walk the tightrope between classic and modern Bordeaux like a pro, with the wines proving to be equally as elegant."
Château Puybarbe is situated at the highest elevation of the Côtes de Bourg appellation, looking over the Gironde estuary on the right bank of Bordeaux. The 41 hectare vineyard comprises mainly Merlot and cabernet sauvignon and is cultivated according to sustainable philosophies. A brand new winery was inaugurated in 2001 and the winemaking is a mix of traditional and modern showing ultimate respect for the grapes and the terroir.
This winery offers seriously good value to Claret fans, all the character of great Bordeaux with the price tag of a Côtes de Bourg!
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc
