Get to know: Mamaruta Kezako Carignan
Tasting Note
This is a super fun and very quaffable Carignan that uses carbonic maceration to extract lots of fruit and less tannin. On the nose you'll find cranberry, plum, and cherry fruit along with some earthy background notes and a little herbaceous edge. The palate is light and juicy, with gentle tannins and fresh acidity. This is honest, fresh red that can be gently chilled before serving.
Try with a plate of charcuterie.

"Mămărutá are a very charming winery. Their name is the Romanian word for ladybug and reflects their organic ethos. This red is everything we love about juicy natural wine. Quality fruit, treated gently, expressing a pure fruit that is fun but never simple."
Producer Info
Mămărutá was created in 2009 after Marc left the cooperative to bottle his families’ own vineyard production. These lie in the two communes of La Palme, with large red stones, and Leucate with more limestone soils. Marc works with his grandfather’s vineyards which are mostly pruned to Gobelet and consist of Carignan and several other varietals. With such a larder to play with, Marc does not hold back on making some fascinating wines, but which are also, when they are required to be, very true to the Fitou AOC. The wines are such good fun and easy to get attached to.
