Get to know: Casa de Vilacetinho, Avesso Reserva
Tasting Note
Avesso is a core component of Vinho Verde blends but is increasingly being used to make really fantastic single varietal wine. It is aromatic and full of character with bright peach, apriot, pineapple and vanilla aromas. Fermented and aged in French oak barrels for 1 year, this is a full-bodied white with a round, ripe palate and layers of complexity as you get waves of fruit and oaky richness before finishing with warm spice.
Try this with a fish pie.
Producer Info
Casa de Vilacetinho is located in Alpendurada overlooking the River Douro and covers an estate with 30 hectares of vineyards on granite soiland a southerly sun exposure, making it one of the most prosperous locales of the region set to the production of ‘Vinho Verde.'
The varietal Avesso, simultaneously one of the most emblematic and challenging of the Vinhos Verdes region, is the base of the wines at Casa de Vilacetinho. It has flavours of white peach in cooler vintages, and ripe nectarine or even mango and tropical notes in warmer ones. It is unusual among varieties used in Vinho Verde for producing wines that are lower in acidity but higher in potential alcohol.
