Cortese, Vanedda Bianco 2020/21

Get to know: Cortese, Vanedda Bianco

Tasting Note

This rich and complex Sicilian white is made up of a blend of Grillo, Cataratto and Fiano.  On the palate it is wonderfully nuanced with layers of fruit and spice held together with well-integrated acidity. The flavours change with every sip: the bright colours of Sicilian summers, the bouquet of an orange or lemon grove, the sunny streets, with their aromas of herbs and spices. A wine that can take you on a journey or simply refresh you depending on your mood.

This goes very well with meat or fish dishes and is ideal with white meat dishes, with a honey reduction, perfectly.

Kate Says

Trust me when I say you need to try this. There's a blink and you miss it touch of skin contact and its aged in large Slovenian oak. I promise you it's a stunner. There's so much going on in that wine but it's not showy like an oaky chard. I had it over 3 days and each day it was showing better than the day before.

Producer Info

Azienda Agricola Cortese is Sicilian biodiversity:  like all of their wines, Vanedda is organic and vegan, produced with the maximum respect for and protection of the environment. Awarded a gold medal by Drinks Business Magazine, Vanedda is the result of constant research, respecting the rhythms of nature, natural fermentation methods, rigour and quality.

The 100% organic grapes come only from their vineyards grown near Contrada Sabuci, in the Vittoria area of South East Sicily. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested into small baskets and only the best quality are selected. The wine is carefully de-stemmed and fermented on the skins for at least 2 days, after which they separate the wine from the skins and finish the fermentation in 30 hl oak botti. Following fermentation, the wine stays on the lees for at least 7 months and remains in bottle for a further 6 months before being released.
