What is Tempranillo?

Tempranillo (Tem-prah-NEE-oh) is a red grape variety that produces wines with red fruit and leather aromas, high tannins, moderate to low acidity. It is the third most-planted grape variety in the world, and the flagship red grape of Spain. Tempranillo is also a key component of Port in Portugal, where it is known as Tinta Roriz or Aragonez.
