Berthe - Sardine Fillets TFM

Get to know: Berthe Boneless Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Tasting Note

These are proper Portuguese sardines, done simply and very well. Berthe’s boneless sardine fillets are tender and flaky, packed in silky extra virgin olive oil that enhances rather than masks the natural flavour of the fish. Expect clean, savoury richness with a gentle saltiness and a soft, almost buttery texture that melts on the palate. There’s none of the harshness you sometimes get with tinned fish – just honest, well-handled sardines with real depth and balance.

They’re brilliant straight from the tin with crusty bread, or stirred through warm pasta with a lemony pesto for something quick but seriously satisfying.

Enjoy these with toasted sourdough and a squeeze of lemon, folded through pasta with herbs and olive oil, or served simply with tomatoes, olives and good sea salt.

Kate Says

"These are the kind of sardines that convert people who think they don’t like tinned fish. Soft, clean and properly elegant – the sort of thing you open ‘just for a snack’ and end up building a whole meal around."

Producer Info

Berthe comes from one of Portugal’s oldest working canneries, established in 1853 in Porto and still producing fish the traditional way. The Berthe brand was launched in 1906 and remains rooted in artisanal methods, with a strong commitment to sustainable fishing.

Everything is about respect for the raw ingredient – careful sourcing, gentle handling and simple recipes that let the quality of the sardines shine. It’s old-school craftsmanship done properly, and it shows in the texture and flavour of every tin.
