Located in the southeastern corner of France, Provence is one of the oldest wine regions in the world and the undisputed home of modern dry rosé. But there's far more to discover here than pale pink wine - from crisp, mineral whites to structured, food-friendly reds, the region's diversity is one of its best-kept secrets.
Rosé
Provence rosé is the benchmark for the style worldwide - pale in colour, dry in character, and built around freshness and delicacy rather than sweetness. The best examples balance citrus and red fruit aromatics with a subtle mineral edge and a clean, refreshing finish. They're wines made for food as much as for sunshine.
Our current by-the-glass Provence rosé across all four of our wine bars is the Selladore en Provence Rosé 2025 - a single-estate wine from a small high-altitude domaine in the Haut Var that we're proud to be one of the only UK stockists of.
White
Provence white wines are underrated and worth seeking out. Typically built around Vermentino (also known as Rolle), Clairette and Grenache Blanc, they offer bright citrus character, herbal freshness and a fine mineral quality that makes them particularly well-suited to seafood, shellfish and lighter Mediterranean dishes.
Red
Provence reds are less well known but can be genuinely impressive - particularly from the Côtes de Provence appellation. Expect dark fruit, earthy depth and a touch of spice, with wines that reward time in the glass and pair well with grilled meats, game and richer dishes.
Côtes de Provence
The largest and most famous appellation in the region, Côtes de Provence is the heartland of Provence rosé. Wines here tend to be light, crisp and aromatic, with a refreshing acidity that makes them endlessly versatile at the table.
Grenache
The backbone of many Provence blends, Grenache brings ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit, a touch of herbs and spice, and the structure that holds a good rosé together.
Syrah
Often blended with Grenache to add depth and intensity - blackberry, plum and a peppery edge that lifts both rosé and red wines from the region.
Mourvèdre
A key blending variety in Provence reds, Mourvèdre produces wines with dark fruit, earthiness and a spicy, savoury character, adding structure and complexity to the wines it appears in.
Cinsault
A key component of Provence rosé, Cinsault contributes freshness, light body and subtle berry fruit - essential for the delicate, pale style the region is famous for.
Vermentino / Rolle
The leading white grape of Provence, producing crisp, citrusy wines with fresh acidity, herbal notes and a fine mineral quality. At its best alongside seafood and salads.
