Get to know: Good, Better, Next - False Bay 'Slow' Chenin Blanc

Description

Welcome to our new case series - Good, Better, Next

With these cases we'll be taking a look at one of our best selling wines (that you already know is good) and answering the question: what should I drink if I like this, but want something better? And what should I try next?

Here we've given False Bay, 'Slow' Chenin Blanc the Good, Better, Next treatment.

Kate Says

"You love the False Bay wines and the Chenin Blanc is one of our favourites too. Our aim with this is to deliver the wine you love alongside carefully selected companions that further your appreciation of it."

What's Inside?

Good: False Bay, 'Slow' Chenin Blanc

We love the wines made by Nadia Barnard. Her False Bay Chenin shows you can get refreshing wine with a subtle savoury complexity at an affordable price. Wild yeast fermentation is key to this benchmark Chenin Blanc. The long wild yeast ferment provides bready aromas and additional complexity to the wine. There's melon and pear fruit and a touch of tropical mango and lime on the palate, followed by a creamy lemon character and a herbaceous edge. This is great with herby roast chicken.

Better: Waterkloof, Circumstance Chenin Blanc 2020

This wine is made by the same team as the False bay, produced from low-yielding, bush vines near to the coast which allows the grapes to ripen slowly giving them better concentration and natural acidity. The nose is has notes of Manuka honey and yellow pollen. The palate is soft and creamy with citrus and a wonderful textural minerality, waxy lanolin notes and honey. Lovely palate weight and Vouvray-like body supports further complexity and decadence.

Next: Chateau Megyer Tokaji Dry Furmint

Here's a great alternative to Chenin Blanc. Furmint is the dominant variety in Tokaji and it shines here, blended with a touch of Harslevelu and Yellow Muscat it's full of zesty lemons and limes. It's super smooth with floral honeysuckle, crunchy green apples and ripe juicy pears with a crisp, clean finish.
