False Bay, 'Slow' Chenin Blanc 2024

Get to know: False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc

A characterful South African Chenin Blanc from the coastal vineyards of the Cape,

Tasting Note

False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc 2024 is a textured white that balances bright citrus freshness with layers of savoury complexity. Pale gold in colour with aromas of green plum, citrus zest, fennel, and a subtle bready note from wild yeast fermentation. On the palate, this Chenin Blanc is medium-bodied with flavours of creamy lemon and stone fruit, supported by a soft texture and a touch of savoury richness. The finish is zippy, fresh, and moreish – the kind of wine that keeps you reaching for another sip. Sustainably crafted by winemaker Nadia Langenegger, it shows just how good value Chenin from South Africa can be – expressive, affordable, and packed with personality.

Top food pairings:

  • Vietnamese-style tofu noodle salad with citrus and herbs
  • Lobster risotto or herby roast chicken
  • Soft cheeses like Brie or creamy goat’s cheese
Kate Says

Producer Info

False Bay Vineyards was founded by Paul Boutinot in 1994 with the aim of rescuing high-quality South African grapes from being lost to bulk production. Today, under the guidance of talented winemaker Nadia Langenegger, the estate champions old bush vines from regions like Swartland and Stellenbosch – areas known for grapes with concentration and freshness. Their philosophy is simple: sustainable farming, minimal intervention, and letting the vineyards speak for themselves.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Chenin Blanc from old bush vines
  • Hand-harvested in the early morning to preserve freshness
  • Only free-run juice used – no heavy pressing
  • Wild yeast fermentation in stainless steel tanks, lasting up to 8 weeks
  • 10 months on lees for added texture, with a small portion aged in large French barrels

Good to know:

  • Region: Coastal Region, South Africa
  • Style: White, still, medium-bodied
  • Closure: Screwcap
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 12.5%
  • Vintage: 2024

Why we love it:

This South African Chenin Blanc delivers outstanding value for money, combining zesty citrus brightness with a touch of creaminess and savoury depth. Versatile at the table and refreshingly complex, it’s a brilliant go-to white for both food pairing and relaxed sipping.
