If you’re looking to explore something truly distinctive by the glass, our latest pour is a quietly exciting one.
Introducing FIO Wines — a collaborative project between two of Europe’s most respected winemaking families: Daniel Niepoort (son of Dirk Niepoort) and Philip Kettern (of the renowned Mosel-based Kettern family). Bridging Portugal and Germany, FIO is a meeting point of tradition, patience, and thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking.
These wines are technically natural, but not in the way you might expect. There’s no funk, no volatility — just precise, confident winemaking that allows the vineyards to speak clearly.
We’ve secured a small parcel of these wines, and they’re now available by the glass in our bars for a limited time.
What Makes FIO Wines Special?
FIO isn’t about trends — it’s about craft.
- No herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilisers
- Indigenous yeast fermentation
- Minimal intervention, maximum expression
- A balance between Mosel precision and Portuguese depth
The result? Wines with clarity, texture, and a sense of place — but still incredibly drinkable.
Meet our Mystery Wines
Ratzelhaft 2018 – Soft, Fruit-Driven & Effortless
The most immediately approachable of the line-up, Ratzelhaft 2018 leans into softness and fruit, making it an easy, generous glass. Expect ripe orchard fruit, a gentle roundness, and a smooth finish. It’s the kind of wine that doesn’t demand attention, but rewards it.
Ratzelhaft 2017 – Classic Mosel with an Edge
A more classic expression of Mosel Riesling — and a more divisive one.
The 2017 vintage brings sharper acidity, more intensity, and a layered flavour profile that’s evolved beautifully over time. There’s citrus, minerality, and a tension that keeps the wine feeling alive in the glass.
2018 or 2017 - same wine, very different mood.
Socalcos 2019 – Structured, Textural & Refined
The most structured and serious of the three.
A single vineyard wine, Socalcos 2019 spent 12 months in oak and a further 6 months on lees in bottle. The result is a wine with depth, texture, and quiet complexity — balanced by freshness and precision.
Drinking beautifully now, with plenty of character.
Why Try These Wines Now?
This is a rare opportunity to experience wines of this calibre by the glass.
Each offers something different:
- 2018 for easy, fruit-led drinking
- 2017 for complexity and classic structure
- 2019 for depth and texture
Whether you’re already a Riesling lover or just curious to explore something new, this is a line-up worth discovering.
