Torremoron, Ribera del Duero Roble 2023/24

Get to know: Torremorón Ribera del Duero Roble 2023

A bold yet beautifully balanced Spanish red wine from Ribera del Duero, crafted from old-vine Tempranillo at high altitude.

Tasting Note

Torremorón Ribera del Duero Roble 2023 is an expressive, oak-aged red that shows just how good Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto del País) can be in this celebrated Spanish region. It’s packed with pure, intense fruit, supported by finely grained tannins and a subtle nudge of oak that adds polish without overpowering. Dark maroon in colour with violet tones, the nose is clear and inviting with aromas of blackberries, black cherries, fresh plum and a touch of vanilla and roasted spice. On the palate, this Ribera del Duero red wine is broad and generous, with ripe black fruit flavours, integrated tannins and gentle toasted notes from barrel ageing. The finish is smooth, structured and quietly powerful, with the oak sitting neatly in the background. A superb example of modern Spanish Tempranillo that seriously overdelivers for the price.

Top food pairings:

  • Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic
  • Chargrilled Iberian pork or chorizo
  • Manchego cheese and jamón Ibérico
Kate Says

"There’s something really special about this project – a community of growers bringing together fruit from 40- to 110-year-old vines and making wine in historic underground cellars. It’s rich, polished and incredibly satisfying to drink."

Producer Info

Torremorón began in 1957 when 57 growers joined forces to vinify their Tempranillo from old plots in an 18th-century underground cellar in Ribera del Duero. Today, 126 families are part of the cooperative, working vines planted between 40 and 110 years ago at an average altitude of 825 metres. Deeply rooted in Castilian winemaking history – where wine has shaped the region since medieval times – the winery takes its name from the area famed for its underground cellars. Their philosophy combines tradition and precision to produce authentic, characterful Ribera del Duero wines with real soul.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Tempranillo (Tinto del País)
  • Manually harvested from high-altitude, old-vine vineyards for concentration and balance
  • 8–10 days of maceration with the skins to extract colour, flavour and structure
  • Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures below 25ºC
  • Aged for 4 months in small barrels (70% American oak, 30% French oak), followed by 4–6 months in bottle

Good to know:

  • Region: Ribera del Duero, Spain
  • Style: Red, dry, oak-aged (Roble)
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: No
