The Glenturret 12 Years Old Single Malt 2023 (70cl, 46%)

Get to know: The Glenturret 12 Year Old Single Malt (2023 Release)

A rich, dried-fruit-led Highland single malt Scotch whisky from Scotland's oldest working distillery.

Tasting Note

Sticky dark fruit and cinnamon hit first, with fudge and charred oak sitting underneath. There's real depth here - gingerbread, toffee apple, sultana and walnut build through the palate, warmed by ginger and a touch of nutmeg. No peat gets in the way of any of it, so the dried fruit and spice have the run of the place. It settles into a long, spicy finish that lingers well past the glass. This is a whisky that tastes older than its years without ever feeling tired.

Serving suggestions:

  • Neat, with a splash of water to open up the dried fruit and spice
  • Over ice with a twist of orange peel
  • Works well shaken into a Whisky Sour
Kate Says

"This one's from the oldest working distillery in Scotland - they've been at it since 1763, tucked into a glen outside Crieff. It's a satisfying and complex sip with rich dried fruit and spice coming through. Each release is blended from sixty casks and it vary slightly year-to-year. Really good with a splash of water in it. Give it a go."

Producer Info

The Glenturret Distillery sits on the banks of the Turret Water, a couple of miles outside Crieff in Perthshire - officially trading since 1763 and recognised as Scotland's oldest working distillery. Its secluded spot in the glen was once home to illicit stills, with the surrounding hills said to have doubled as smugglers' lookout points. The distillery is now part of the Lalique Group.

How it's made:

  • Base ingredients: 100% malted barley, unpeated
  • Mashed and fermented before distillation in traditional copper pot stills
  • Matured across a small selection of American and European oak casks
  • Fewer than sixty carefully selected casks married together for this release
  • Bottled at 12 years old, at 46.4% ABV

Good to know:

  • Region: Highland, Scotland
  • Style: Single malt Scotch whisky, unpeated
  • Closure: Cork stopper
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 46.4%
  • Age statement: 12 Years (2023 Release)

Why we love it:

There's a lot packed into this Highland single malt Scotch whisky - dark dried fruit, gingerbread spice and charred oak, built from fewer than sixty casks and no peat whatsoever. It's a whisky for sipping slowly, neat or with a splash of water, and one that holds its own well past the last of the glass.
