Tahbilk, Marsanne Nagambie Lakes 2023

Get to know: Tahbilk Nagambie Lakes Marsanne 2023

A vibrant Australian white wine from the historic Nagambie Lakes region in Victoria.

Tasting Note

Tahbilk Nagambie Lakes Marsanne 2023 is a lively, mineral-driven white that delivers plenty of freshness and subtle complexity. Pale lemon in colour with lifted aromas of grapefruit zest, citrus blossom, and a gentle hint of pear and green apple. On the palate, this Marsanne is crisp and energetic, showing flavours of Granny Smith apple, citrus fruits, and juicy pear, all wrapped in a clean, mineral backbone. It finishes with a bright, refreshing edge and a delicate citrus lift. A brilliant example of modern Australian Marsanne, offering both drinkability and finesse.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled chicken with lemon and herbs
  • Pan-fried white fish with a citrus butter sauce
  • Light vegetable risotto or asparagus dishes
Kate Says

"This is one of those wines that quietly overdelivers – crisp, citrusy and just the thing for a relaxed midweek supper or a sunny afternoon in the garden."

Producer Info

Tahbilk is one of Australia’s most historic family-owned wineries, established in 1860 and widely regarded as a leading producer in the Nagambie Lakes region of Victoria. Renowned for their exceptional Marsanne, Tahbilk holds the world’s largest single planting of the variety, including vines dating back to 1927. The estate sits along the Goulburn River, where the unique combination of waterways, sandy loam soils, and a warm climate helps produce wines with both richness and natural freshness. Sustainability is central to their philosophy, with the winery achieving carbon neutral status and focusing on long-term vineyard health.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Marsanne
  • Harvested with a mix of hand-picked old vines and carefully selected machine-harvested fruit for balance and consistency
  • Grapes are destemmed, lightly crushed, cooled, and gently pressed
  • Cool fermentation with neutral yeasts in stainless steel at 10–12°C to preserve fresh fruit character
  • No malolactic fermentation to retain crisp acidity and a clean, zesty style

Why we love it:

This Australian white wine is a cracking introduction to Marsanne, combining zesty citrus, orchard fruit, and a refreshing mineral edge. It’s a versatile bottle that works just as well with food as it does on its own – a real go-to for lovers of bright, elegant whites.
