Shafer, Relentless 2018

Get to know: Shafer, Relentless 2018

Tasting Note

This wine honors long-time Shafer Winemaker Elias Fernandez and his relentless pursuit of quality. Sourced from ridgetop vineyards adjacent to the southern border of Stags Leap District, the grapes for Relentless are a proprietary blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah.

The result is a bold, powerful Californian red blend with remarkable depth. Dark berries, black pepper, and a hint of smoked meat dominate the nose, while the palate is rich with blackberry, plum, and a touch of cocoa. The tannins are firm yet refined, leading to a long, savory finish. An absolute treat for lovers of robust, full-bodied reds. It is drinking beautifully now, showcasing its bold fruit and complex layers, but it also has excellent aging potential. With its sturdy structure and well-integrated tannins, this wine can be cellared for another 10-15 years.

Pair it with grilled lamb chops seasoned with rosemary and garlic or a roasted vegetable lasagna.
