A Grenache and Syrah red wine from the Aude in southern France, bottled light and sealed under screwcap for drinking, not keeping.
For the person who says "just give me something good". Strawberry and dark cherry straight away, a twist of black pepper behind it, and no hard edges anywhere - the tannins are there to hold it together and then get out of the way. It is juicy the whole way through and finishes clean. You do not need to think about this wine, which is entirely the point of it, and it's one we would happily put in front of anyone.

Sarrat de Goundy are a La Clape estate, run by Olivier Calix with his mother Rosy on a block of limestone near Armissan that was an island until silt from the Aude joined it to the mainland. Les Saisonniers sits outside the appellation, in the wider Aude, which is what lets them make it at this price. Olivier has also been working with terracotta since 2013 and now keeps around twenty-five 155-litre jars for his reds.
This is such a good example of the value and quality you can find the Languedoc - a southern French red wine with real fruit and no pretension. Chill it slightly and it gets even better.
