Get to know: SAAM The Collaboration Series Fairtrade Grenache Blanc 2024

Tasting Note

Crisp, fresh, and beautifully balanced, this South African Grenache Blanc is a proper crowd-pleaser. Expect ripe peach, green pineapple, and a splash of citrus, all backed up by a subtle almondy richness from a touch of oak ageing. The finish is long, clean, and refreshingly mineral, making it perfect for seafood, creamy pasta, or just a sunny afternoon with a glass in hand.

Try this with green salads, seafood, lightly flavoured pasta, or semi-firm aged goat’s cheese.

Kate Says

"If you like your whites with a bit of texture but still bright and zingy, this one's for you. It’s got all that lovely tropical fruit, but there’s a touch of spice and creaminess that gives it a bit of depth. Plus, it’s Fairtrade, so you can feel good about every sip. I’d crack this open with grilled prawns, roast chicken, or even a well-made fish and chips!"

Producer Info

SAAM, meaning ‘together’ in Afrikaans, is all about collaboration and ethical winemaking. Produced by Perdeberg Cellar in the Western Cape, this wine is part of a Fairtrade-certified range that supports vineyard workers and sustainable farming. The grapes come from old bush vines, grown on rocky, well-drained soils, which helps concentrate the flavours. Whether you’re a long-time Grenache Blanc fan or trying it for the first time, this bottle is a great way to discover what South Africa does best.

After de-stemming, the juice spent two hours on the skins before only the clear, free-run juice was extracted. 70% was fermented in stainless steel tanks and rested on the lees for three months to build texture. The other 30% was fermented and aged on the lees for six months in 500-litre French oak barrels, adding depth and complexity. No malolactic fermentation was done, keeping the wine’s fresh, crisp acidity.
