One Chain 'The wrong' Un', Shiraz Cabernet 2022

Get to know: One Chain 'The wrong' Un' Shiraz Cabernet

Tasting Note

This is what Aussie reds do best – bold, fruit-packed, and easy to love. The One Chain The Wrong Un Shiraz Cabernet hits you with ripe blackcurrant and juicy plum, followed by hints of liquorice, woodspice and a touch of black pepper. It’s full-bodied but smooth, with velvety tannins and a finish that lingers just long enough. Whether you're firing up the grill, settling in for a movie night, or just fancy a solid bottle that always delivers, The Wrong Un is a cracking pick. It's an affordable Australian Shiraz Cabernet, built for real life – and really good times.

Food pairings?

  • BBQ jackfruit burgers – smoky, sticky, and a brilliant match for the wine’s spice.

  • Mature cheddar – the sharpness complements the plush fruit perfectly.

  • Slow-cooked lamb shoulder – especially if there’s a minty sauce in the mix.

This is a proper crowd-pleaser – rich and warming, but balanced enough to sip on its own too.

Kate Says

"Australia is brilliant for fruity wines that are easy to drink and with labels that are easy to understand. This red is exactly that. Full of ripe dark fruit and juicy enough to please almost anyone. It’s a great wine for a burger."

Producer Info

The name One Chain is a nod to cricket – 22 yards, the length of a pitch, is one chain in old money. But don’t worry, no cricket knowledge required to enjoy this wine. The brains behind it are Peter Leske, Giles Cooke MW, and Fergal Tynan MW – a crack team of winemakers who know exactly how to craft a great-value bottle that punches above its weight.

The grapes for this Australian Shiraz Cabernet wine are sourced from top vineyard sites across South Eastern Australia, where warm days and cool nights help the fruit ripen fully while holding on to that vital freshness.

To lock in flavour and keep everything vibrant, the grapes are harvested at night. They’re then fermented for about a week in static and rotary fermenters – this means great colour, big flavour, and silky tannins without harshness. Most of the wine is aged in stainless steel, which lets the fruit shine and keeps the style juicy and approachable, rather than overly oaky.

The result? A full-bodied Shiraz Cabernet from South Australia that’s bursting with flavour, fresh as a daisy, and seriously moreish. And since it’s vegan-friendly, everyone can get stuck in.
