Las Estelas Malbec 2023

Get to know: Las Estelas Malbec 2023

Malbec from El Peral in Tupungato, Mendoza - an Argentine red wine from the family vines of one of the country's best winemakers.

Tasting Note

Plums dipped in dark chocolate is the first thing you'll get. Then a burst of juicy dark cherry arrives and keeps the whole glass lively. For a red with this much intensity it stays remarkably pure and elegant, and the fruit does all the talking. Pour it into a big glass and give it a few minutes before the food lands.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled ribeye with chimichurri
  • Slow-cooked beef short rib
  • Smoky black bean and sweet potato chilli
Kate Says

"We are big fans of Estela Perinetti's wines and her Malbec is world class. This is a gently oaked red, so you really keep that lovely juicy plummy fruit. I'd love this with a big steak, a bit of chimichurri, that kind of thing."

Producer Info

Estela Perinetti comes from a family of Piedmontese immigrants who settled in Argentina in the early 20th century, and they have always had vines at El Peral. She was one of the chief winemakers at Bodega Catena Zapata and spent 20 years leading the winemaking at Bodega Caro, the joint venture between Catena and Château Lafite. Las Estelas is where she now makes her own wines, with restraint and elegance at the centre of everything.

How it's made:

  • 60% of the wine spends 12 months in oak
  • Half of that oak is new, half second use
  • The remaining 40% sees no oak at all

Good to know:

  • Region: Tupungato, Mendoza, Argentina
  • Grape: Malbec
  • Style: Red, still, full-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Not supplied
  • ABV: 14%
  • Vintage: 2023

Why we love it:

An Argentine red wine with chocolatey plum and vivid dark cherry, made by someone who spent decades at the top of the country's winemaking. Give it to the Malbec lover in your life, or keep it for the Christmas beef.
