Meet two of our favourites from the world of natural wine. These wines are made with a hands off approach in the vineyards and the winery leading to wines that truly express the grapes and where they come from. Covering red and white wines that demonstrate quality winemaking.
Fatalone, Primitivo Riserva, 15% Italy
This is a powerful, richly flavoured natural red from the esteemed winemaker Filippo Petrera. It has inviting aromas of very ripe fruits and slightly toasted wood and spices, with some balsamic notes. Full bodied, rich in minerality and freshness, balanced smooth taste of black sour cherry and plum tending to velvety with ripe fruity notes of blackberry and mulberry, and spices like clove and cacao. It features a toasted almond aftertaste, a taste they say is authentic to Primitivo of Gioia del Colle.
Try this with some slow cooked beef or lamb shank.
Testalonga, Baby Bandito 'Keep on Punching' Chenin Blanc, 12% South Africa
Craig and Carla Hawkins are natural wine superstars, making single vineyard, single variety wines with a hands off approach to truly express the sense of place and using predominantly Mediterranean grape varieties. Lots of crunchy apples, ripe pear and soft white peach here with that bright streak of mouth watering acidity we expect from Testalonga.
Try this with pork loin and an asian style slaw.
