The nose is quite solid initially with old leather and cereal aromas, developing a softer touch with some butterscotch, sweet malt and mellow spice. The the palate, initial sweet spice with a touch of banana and beeswax, further notes of more tobacco and a lightly tangy vinosity before a lengthy finish.
The first bottling under the Mossburn name was released in 2017 as a range of classic Independent Bottler Malts. In the nearly three decades prior, the team developed and honed its skills in blending and bottling whiskies and a variety of other spirits. Their combined experience spans generations, with over a century of continuous family history in the Scotch Whisky industry.
The 2023 Single cask series offers a distinctive, individual expression from a single cask of select whiskies by independent distilleries, each finished with a distinct flavour.
Mossburn have a bit of a soft spot for Madeira casks and this Ben Nevis cask provided a wonderful opportunity to use one; naturally tending to full-bodied without ever becoming too overbrearing. The finish has brought wonderful butterscotch richness to the whole.
