A very charming modern Malbec that we fell for after the first sip. Mauricio Lorca is a champion of fruit driven wines that have a wonderfully expressive quality. Dark and aromatic with raspberry, plum and cherry fruit, a little pepper spice and a fresh and juicy finish with light tannins. An unoaked wine and all the better for it for it. A real crowd-pleaser.
Try this with grilled lamb chops or herby sausages.
This is the kind of Malbec I like to drink when I just want a glass of something mid-week or when friends drop by. The black cherry and raspberry fruit is bright and vibrant with an easy freshness. I'd enjoy this with a lamb kebab.
Mauricio Lorca originally planned to become a doctor, but changed course when he discovered a passion for viticulture and winemaking. He began working his way up at roles with Catena, Luigi Bosca and Finca La Celia and during this time he showed an ability to look beyond the tradition of using oak barrels and see potential in quality of fruit to stand alone. He now makes top-class, unoaked wines at his high-altitude vineyards at Vista Flores in the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo. A no-frills operation with the energy and solid work ethic of every employee channeled into getting the job done with efficiency and aplomb.
The Recoleta wines are about as good an 'entry-level' quality you could hope for. Sourcing fruit from their own Vista Flores vineyards 1050meters above sea level.
