Matervini Antes Andes Vina Canota 2017

Matervini Antes Andes Vina Canota 2017

Tasting Note

This exceptional Malbec from the Canota Valley in Mendoza, Argentina, showcases the unique terroir of the Pre-Cordillera foothills. The nose offers intense aromas of lush dark berry fruits, complemented by notes of sweet liquorice and dark chocolate. On the palate, it presents a warm, full-bodied experience with harmonious acidity and powerful yet elegant tannins. The wine displays lively, finely textured dried raspberry and brambly flavours, with hints of rooibos tea. An unctuously ripe midpalate leads to a long finish with intriguing wet sandstone accents. The winemaking process involves fermentation in concrete vats followed by 15 months of maturation in French oak barrels. This technique results in a wine of remarkable depth, structure, and complexity. Pair with grilled ribeye steak, slow-cooked lamb shanks, or aged hard cheeses for an unforgettable dining experience.

Kate Says

"This Malbec is a true expression of its terroir. If you're looking for a concentrated, complex wine that showcases the best of high-altitude Argentinian viticulture, this is the bottle for you. It's perfect for those who appreciate bold, structured reds and something special."

Producer Info

Matervini was founded in 2008 by renowned winemakers Santiago Achával and Roberto Cipresso. Located in Mendoza, Argentina, it's the country's first fully solar-powered winery, dedicated to exploring different Malbec terroirs. The Antes Andes Vina Canota is sourced from 5 hectares of 7-year-old vines in the Canota Valley, situated between 300-600m above sea level. The unique combination of clay and volcanic soils, along with limited yields, allows for the production of this outstanding wine that truly captures the essence of its high-altitude origins.
