Get to know: Marco Abella, Clos Abella Priorat 2015
Tasting Note
Strikingly perfumed aromas of red and dark fruits are joined by fresh flowers, oak spices and liquorice. On the palate, black cherry, mineral, spice and chocolate flavours can be found. It is dense and complex with silky tannins, good balance, and a long, fresh finish.
Pairs well with Iberian ham, venison loin with mushrooms, turnip and parsnip.
Kate Says
"Priorat is known for bold powerful wines made with Grenache. The wines of Marco Abella maintain that core of rich, earthy fruit, but they also have a wonderful freshness. We absolutely love this. It is an excellent red wine for a gift."
Producer Info
70% Garnacha, 30% Carinena aged in French oak for 18 months.
Marco Abella wines are a clear expression of the land from which they spring. Their 23 hectares of land are distributed over four different vineyards located between 450m and 700m altitude, which makes their wines uniquely refreshing. They believe firmly in Biodynamic viticulture and follow the principles throughout the vineyard and the winery. The Priorat soil is the source of the unique minerality or earthiness of the region’s wines. It is an arid soil characterised by slate strata known in Catalan as licorella. Vines are grown in terraced vineyards or costers on the area’s steep hillsides, at altitudes ranging from 200m to 700m.
