Lot. 40 Canadian Whisky (70cl 43%)

Get to know: Lot No. 40 Canadian Whisky

A bold, all-rye Canadian whisky distilled at Hiram Walker in Ontario and bottled by Corby Distilleries.

Tasting Note

This is a rye whisky through and through. Rye spice and dill lead the nose, backed by orange citrus, caramel and a streak of cinnamon. The palate follows on, rye and brown sugar up front, caramel and wood underneath, with a little vanilla for balance. It finishes long, spicy and warming, rye and cinnamon fading slowly giving this good length.

Serving suggestions:

  • Neat or with one ice cube, to let the rye spice lead
  • Excellent in a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned
  • A good bottle for anyone who likes American rye but wants to try the Canadian version
Kate Says

"As an instroduction to Canadian Whisky you can't do much better than this. It's a proper rye, spicy and full-flavoured. Worth having in you home bar for enjoying neat or mixed in an Old Fashioned"

Producer Info

Lot No. 40 is distilled at Hiram Walker in Windsor, Ontario, and bottled by Corby Distilleries. It was originally released in the late 1990s, discontinued, then brought back after demand from bartenders and whisky drinkers who remembered the original.

How it's made:

  • Base ingredient: 100% rye grain, including malted rye
  • Distilled at Hiram Walker Distillery, Ontario
  • Bottled by Corby Distilleries

Good to know:

  • Region: Ontario, Canada
  • Style: Canadian rye whisky
  • ABV: 43%

Why we love it:

Lot No. 40 is a Canadian whisky that argues its own case: 100% rye, well spiced, and a genuinely good introduction to what the category can do beyond the supermarket blends.
