Libre Y Salvaje Garnacha Blanca 2023

Get to know: Libre Y Salvaje Garnacha Blanca 2023

Garnacha Blanca from Cariñena in Aragón - a Spanish white wine from an organic winery in the Sierra de Algairén.

Tasting Note

Pale in the glass, with green apple and white peach on the nose and a delicate floral note. The palate is generous and fresh mineral, with a minerlaly, stony, slightly salty edge supporting ripe apricot and touch of honey. It has enough weight to hold your interest right through a meal. The finish is clean, with a touch of white pepper.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled sea bream with lemon and olive oil
  • Roast cauliflower with tahini and fresh herbs
  • Manchego with marcona almonds
Kate Says

"If you only know Garnacha as a red, this is a lovely way to meet the white version. This would appeal to fans of Albarino and Gruner Veltliner. Chill it down and open it with something off the grill."

Producer Info

Libre Y Salvaje (Free & Wild) works out of Almonacid de la Sierra, in the Sierra de Algairén within D.O. Cariñena, Aragón. Their vineyards are farmed organically and regeneratively, and the winery keeps mechanical and chemical intervention as low as it can.

How it's made:

  • Grapes come from organically and regeneratively farmed vineyards in the Sierra de Algairé
  • Dry-farmed bush vines aged 50–85 years in the stony, nutrient-poor soils of El Plano Alto
  • The fruit travels down through the four-level winery by gravity, with no pumps
  • The cellar uses stainless steel, concrete, wooden foudre and large clay jars.

Good to know:

  • Region: Cariñena, Aragón, Spain
  • Grape: Garnacha Blanca
  • Style: White, still
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 13.5%
  • Vintage: 2023

Why we love it:

A mineralyl Spanish white wine that works with grilled fish, roast vegetables or a simple cheese board. One to try if you fancy a white with a bit of texture.
