Get to Know: Hans Herzog, Zweigelt
Tasting Note
This is a really vibrant shade of purple in the glass and the aromatics jump out at you. Lots of dark damson plums, rich prunes, liquorice spice and hints of smooth, dark chocolate. It's elegant and has soft tannins with lively acidity.
Pair this with a rich dish like slow roasted Pork Belly.
Producer Info
Established in 1994 Herzog is an artisan family winery acclaimed for growing handcrafted wines from their exceptional 'Grand Cru' organic vineyard in Marlborough. The grapes spend around 20 days maceration on skins to gently extract colour and tannins before wild fermentation takes place and the wine is gently pressed and transferred to French oak barrels to age on the fine lees for around 18 months.
