Tasting Note

This is some special stuff from the wonderful Hans Herzog. A vibrant, aromatic wine full of blackberries and blackcurrants with layers of complexity offering up vanilla, cigar box, prunes, dried figs, black plum, blackcurrant, menthol, eucalyptus, licorice, aniseed, forest floor and meaty notes leading to a rich dark chocolate finish wrapped up in silky tannins. Very good quality and nicely developed now but could still be cellared for 3-5 years.

Ideal to pair with rich, hearty dishes such as a winter stew or slow cooked lamb.

Producer Info

Established in 1994 Herzog is an artisan family winery acclaimed for growing handcrafted wines from their exceptional 'Grand Cru' organic vineyard in Marlborough. The Montepulciano is wild yeast fermented before ageing in French barriques before being bottled without fining or filtration and with minimal use of SO2.
