Get to know: Hans Herzog, "Secrets of Marlborough" Montepulciano 2016
Tasting Note
This is some special stuff from the wonderful Hans Herzog. A vibrant, aromatic wine full of blackberries and blackcurrants with layers of complexity offering up vanilla, cigar box, prunes, dried figs, black plum, blackcurrant, menthol, eucalyptus, licorice, aniseed, forest floor and meaty notes leading to a rich dark chocolate finish wrapped up in silky tannins. Very good quality and nicely developed now but could still be cellared for 3-5 years.
Ideal to pair with rich, hearty dishes such as a winter stew or slow cooked lamb.
