Get to know: A Pie de Tierra, Gre2 Garnacha
Tasting Note
A gorgeously delicate red from the hills near Madrid. Think rose petals, wild strawberries and a bit of wild forest floor on the nose. The palate’s juicy and lifted, full of light red fruit, subtle spice, and a whisper of earthiness – not far off a fine Pinot. Elegant, fresh and quietly complex.
Try this with grilled aubergine and tahini, mushroom stroganoff, or a simple roast chicken. For cheese, try it with a mild goats' cheese, a young Manchego, or even a creamy Brie.
Kate Says
"I love how this feels light and fresh but still has loads going on. It’s the sort of wine I’d open with veggie tapas or even just good bread and olives to share with friends on a warm spring day."
Producer Info
A Pie de Tierra is a passion project run by two mates, David and Aitor, who started making wine in 2015 after cutting their teeth at some of Spain’s top estates. They work with old Garnacha vines in the Sierra de Gredos – a wild, mountainous region near Madrid – using only organic, low-intervention methods.
The vines grow on granite soils up to 900 metres above sea level, which gives this wine its freshness and finesse. Grapes are either whole bunch or gently destemmed, fermented with native yeasts in a mix of stainless steel, oak and even chestnut vats. It’s bottled unfiltered, unfined, with minimal sulphur – just pure Garnacha, honestly made.
