Get to know: Glencadam Reserva PX Sherry Cask
A rich, dark-fruited Highland single malt whisky from Glencadam, finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
Tasting Note
This one leans into the sherry cask hard: dried fruit and chocolate mousse on the nose, treacle and Morello cherries running underneath. Clove and maple syrup carry the palate, with blackcurrant compote, golden raisins and a bit of crystallised ginger keeping it from tipping into pure sweetness. It's a dense, dessert-like dram, the kind that fills the glass with colour before you even taste it. The finish holds onto espresso and caramel for a good while after the last sip, which is exactly what you want from a sherried whisky at this strength.
Serving suggestions:
- Neat, after dinner, in place of a pudding
- Alongside dark chocolate or a good Christmas cake
- A splash of water if the PX sweetness feels too concentrated
Kate Says
"Pedro Ximénez finishes can go too sweet and lose the whisky underneath, but this one keeps its balance. Glencadam's own character is still there under all that dried fruit. Good one for the fans of richer, fruitier whiskies in your life."
