Get to know: Giuseppe Cortese Barbera d'Alba 2025
Barbera from the Alba hills of Piedmont - a juicy Italian red wine from a family estate on Barbaresco's Rabajà hill.
Tasting Note
Sour cherry and ripe plum come first, with a dash of spice behind. The acidity is bright and mouth-watering, and the tannins stay soft. It's medium-bodied and easy to drink, with a juicy finish that has you thinking about what to cook alongside it.
Top food pairings:
- Margherita pizza with fresh basil
- Sausage and tomato pasta
- Spaghetti with garlic, chilli and tomato
Kate Says
"I'd open this one on pizza night. Barbera has a bright, juicy streak that works well with tomato sauce, and this comes from a family who've been making wine in Piedmont since 1971. Easy to like, and it's a good one to take to a friend's."
Producer Info
Giuseppe Cortese farms around nine hectares on the Rabajà hill in Barbaresco, between 200 and 330 metres above sea level on clay-limestone soils. Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto are the local grapes they grow, and Chardonnay is their only variety from elsewhere.
How it's made:
- Grapes are harvested by hand across the estate
