A vibrant and food-friendly Spanish Albariño wine from the coastal vineyards of Rías Baixas in Galicia.
Follas Novas Albariño is a crisp and expressive white wine that sits somewhere between lean mineral freshness and ripe Atlantic fruit. Pale straw yellow in colour, it opens with aromas of grapefruit, lime zest, white peach, and delicate white flowers. On the palate, this Rías Baixas Albariño has more intensity and ripeness than some of the region’s leaner styles, bringing a touch of juicy stone fruit alongside its citrus-driven core. There’s still a distinctly savoury, saline edge running through the wine though, with bright acidity and a subtle herbal bitterness keeping everything taut and refreshing. Compared to the more fruit-forward style of Pazo Cilleiro, this feels slightly more restrained and structured – a brilliant choice for the table rather than casual sipping.
Top food pairings:
"This sits in a really nice middle ground for Albariño lovers – enough ripe fruit to feel generous, but still plenty of salty freshness and bite. Brilliant with seafood, especially anything grilled."
Paco & Lola, the cooperative behind Follas Novas, was founded in 2005 by independent growers in Galicia’s Rías Baixas region. Based in the Val do Salnés subzone, the winery works with hundreds of small vineyard plots influenced by cooling Atlantic breezes and granitic soils. Their focus on freshness, precision, and expressive Albariño has helped establish them as one of the leading modern producers in north-west Spain.
This Spanish Albariño wine balances ripe citrus and stone fruit with the salty freshness and savoury structure that make Rías Baixas whites so food-friendly. More intense than leaner Albariños but less overtly fruity than some modern styles, it’s a brilliant seafood wine with real depth and character.
