Get to know: Flint Vineyard, Pinot Noir

Tasting Note

A bold and ripe expression of Pinot Noir from the stellar vintage of 2022. Made from fruit harvested from Burgundian and German clones of Pinot Noir at Flint Vineyard and from Martin's Lane in the Crouch Valley, Essex. Long standing followers of Flint will know that their popular red, Pinot Noir Précoce is made from an eagerly ripening ‘clone’ of Pinot Noir, but they also planted some special Burgundian ‘clones’ of Pinot Noir on their Brown’s vineyard site, in 2016, and this is the first time they’ve picked these grapes for making red wine.

Vibrant with notes of plum and black cherry, warming toast and spice. The palate is rich with textured silky tannins and flavours of ripe damson and hints of rosemary. Persistence of hedgerow fruit and crunchy acidity gives a complete and rounded finish.

Try this with duck or mushroom dishes.

Kate Says

"Flint Vineyard are becoming one of the most exciting English wineries around. This Pinot Noir is a delight with ripe berry fruit and the kind of subtle complexity and texture that Flint achieve so well."

Producer Info

Flint Vineyard, established in 2016, is recognized as one of England's best wineries and most consistent still winemakers. Winemaker Ben Witchell is known for producing wines with a distinctive style – textural and vibrant in fruit.

The fruit was crushed and destemmed, fermented on its skins, and the wine transferred to new French oak for 16 months of maturation. Bottled unfiltered and unfined in March 2024, before being aged for a further six months under cork.
