Flint Vineyard, Bacchus 2025

Get to know: Flint Bacchus 2025

Bacchus from Norfolk's Flint Vineyard, a bone-dry English white wine with kiwi and passionfruit up front.

Tasting Note

Kiwi and passionfruit jump out of the glass first, with heather underneath and a little elderflower drifting in behind. The palate is fleshy: juicy melon and pear, kept bright by a lemony zing. A creamy, textural feel runs through it, and a hint of cardamom lingers on the long finish. Light-bodied with plenty of flavour for the weight.

Top food pairings:

  • Fish and chips with a good squeeze of lemon
  • Crispy fried chicken
  • Tofu and vegetable stir-fry with chilli, lime and fresh coriander, for a bit of Thai-style heat
Kate Says

"This one's been really popular on tap in our bars, and it's the same Bacchus 2025 in a bottle, so you can have a glass with us or take it home. Get it well chilled and give it a go with fish and chips, see what you think."

Producer Info

Flint Vineyard was founded in 2016 by co-founder and Head Winemaker Ben Witchell, who trained in oenology and viticulture and spent two years making wine in Beaujolais. Home is rural South Norfolk, one of the driest and sunniest spots in the UK, and the fruit goes straight into their on-site winery. The team keeps asking questions and leaning into new ideas.

How it's made:

  • Blended from separate vineyard parcels and a range of picking dates, so zesty acidity sits alongside the tropical character of the warmer sites
  • A mix of pressing techniques and yeast strains, indigenous and active dried, to draw out as much character as possible
  • Fermented in small barriques, large oak foudres and un-lined concrete tanks, where gentle micro-oxygenation softens the wine and builds more complex aromatics
  • Regular lees stirring (bâtonnage) and 20% malolactic fermentation add a creamy texture and soften the acidity
  • No chaptalisation and no sugar added to back-sweeten, with minimal sulphites (under 20 mg/L)

Good to know:

  • Region: Norfolk, England (grapes also from Suffolk and the Crouch Valley, Essex)
  • Grape: Bacchus (100%)
  • Style: White, still, dry, light-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 11.5%
  • Vintage: 2025

Why we love it:

We love Flint's experimental approach, their dedication to quality and their willingness to go against the trend, and this English white wine shows off the purity and balance of flavour they're after.
