Flint Vineyard, Chardonnay 2022

Get to know: Flint Vineyard, Chardonnay

Tasting Note

Dedicated to Roy Martin, this is one of two special releases from the glorious 2022 vintage.

Made from the best Chardonnay they've ever seen, picked by hand from Martin's Lane Vineyard in the Crouch Valley, Essex. This has notes of pithy lemon and white peach combined with vanilla pod and butterscotch. The palate has a fleshy texture, flavours of ripe apricot crumble, a hint of cinnamon. Leading to a toasty finish, underpinned by subtle woodsmoke and fresh acidity.

Try this with pan fried halibut.

Kate Says

"Flint Vineyard are becoming one of the most exciting English wineries around. For me this white wine is on par with a good, characterful Burgundy, albeit with plenty of English charm. I'd enjoy this with scallops and langoustines."

Producer Info

Flint Vineyard, established in 2016, is recognized as one of England's best wineries and most consistent still winemakers. Winemaker Ben Witchell is known for producing wines with a distinctive style – textural and vibrant in fruit.

The 2022 vintage was hot and dry, so yields were low and ripeness exceptional. Whole-bunch pressed and only the 'heart' of the free-run used. Fermented and aged in new French oak for 17 months with 50% weekly bâtonnage.

Bottled in March 2024 before being aged for a further six months under cork. No fining or filtration, so it may throw a deposit over time.

Residual sugar: <0.5 g/L
