A rich, spicy Spanish red made by a flying Scotsman with a flair for old vines. Big on flavour, smooth in style.
This medium-bodied Spanish red comes from the rugged hills of Calatayud in Aragón, crafted by Master of Wine Norrel Robertson - also known as “El Escocés Volante” (The Flying Scotsman). It’s a blend of old-vine Garnacha with Syrah, Tempranillo and a splash of Mazuela (Carignan), giving it loads of ripe black fruit, warming spice, and a touch of herbal lift.
The palate is generous and velvety, with soft tannins and a long, satisfying finish. Aged in old French oak barrels, it’s got polish without overpowering the fruit.
Top food pairings:
A brilliant winter warmer, but equally good with BBQ or grilled dishes year-round.
“This is such a satisfying wine - full of flavour but really well balanced. That old-vine Garnacha gives loads of depth and character, and there’s just the right amount of oak to round it out. A real treat with slow-cooked lamb.”
“El Escocés Volante” is the winemaking project of Norrel Robertson MW, one of the few Masters of Wine actually making wine. Originally from Scotland, he’s spent decades in Spain working with high-altitude vineyards and old bush vines in Calatayud, where Garnacha thrives in poor soils and extreme conditions.
How it’s made:
The result is a bold yet elegant Spanish red with real identity — ripe fruit, savoury spice, and a lovely natural balance.
This is modern Spanish winemaking at its best — expressive, generous and packed with flavour, yet totally drinkable. A perfect red for sharing, gifting or pairing with a hearty meal.
