A wonderful example of the fine and delicate style of Pinot Noir you find in Volnay. The nose is elegant and floral with raspberries and violets. There's plush, round fruit on the palate with well intergrated tannins and a soft finish. This is a seductive, juicy wine from a very good vintage.
A great wine to pair with duck or quail dishes.
"Pierrick Bouley is a star and produces a classic Volnay with a modern lift. It has beautifully pure fruit that leaps from the glass. A joy to drink already, but with enough structure for a few more years ageing."
Volnay is a village in the Côte de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy located between Pommard and Meursault.
In the heart of Volnay this is an estate that has been managed by the Bouley Family for five generations. Reyanne Bouley looks after the celler while Pascal Bouley handed over winemaking to his son Pierrick Bouley 8 years ago and he has since won the title 'Young Vigneron of the year' from Bourgogne Aujourd'hui magazine. He uses minimal sulphur and allows the wines to evolve naturally, aiming for purity of fruit, silky tannins and good length.
The 2020 Volnay is handpicked, undergoes daily pumping over and 3 punchdowns to extract colour and tannins from the skins during fermentation. The wine then spends 12 months in oak before being bottled with a tiny amount of sulphur.
