Domaine Gayda, Flying Solo White 2023

Get to know: Domaine Gayda, Flying Solo White

Tasting Note

Gayda's Flying Solo celebrates the intrepid Aéropostale pilots who risked life and limb to ensure postal services in the 1920s. It is also a showcase for the versatility and quality of the Grenache grapes found abundantly in their region. The nose of this blend opens with generous aromas of sweet pear and honeysuckle, gradually unveiling a delicate floral freshness. On the palate, a crisp, zesty start gives way to a fleshy, full-flavoured palate, where citrus and grapefruit notes blend seamlessly with the white fruit and floral hints from the nose.

Try this with grilled prawns or a fresh ceviche. Also great with a goats cheese salad.

Kate Says

Domaine Gayda have really impressed us with their wines purity of fruit and it really comes across in this lively and refreshing white blend. Bursting with citrus and floral notes, it's incredibly easy to drink. Ideal for sunny afternoons or casual dinners, it pairs wonderfully with seafood, salads, or grilled chicken. A fantastic, great value everyday wine!

Producer Info

Domaine Gayda, nestled in Brugairolles near Carcassonne, is distinguished by a rich history and a philosophy focused on integrity and quality. Founded in 1749 as a coaching inn the farm buildings were gradually transformed into luxury accommodation, marking the beginning of a remarkable transformation. In 2004, under the enlightened leadership of owners Tim Ford and Anthony Record, in partnership with talented winemaker Vincent Chansault, the estate took a new turn by modernising significantly.

Blend: 85% Grenache Blanc 15% Viognier

The vineyard sits on limestone terraces with clay soils, providing a unique foundation for the wine's character. The winemaking process begins with gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by cold fermentation to preserve fresh flavors. The wine is then aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, enhancing its texture and complexity. After blending, it undergoes sterile filtration to ensure purity before bottling.
