Domaine Francois Raquillet, Bourgogne Rouge 2023

Get to know: Domaine François Raquillet Bourgogne Rouge 2023

A classic Burgundy red wine from the Côte Chalonnaise in southern Burgundy.

Tasting Note

Domaine François Raquillet Bourgogne Rouge 2023 is an elegant, easy-going red that shows the charm and drinkability of Pinot Noir without any heavy-handed winemaking. Medium ruby in colour, it offers inviting aromas of strawberry, raspberry and red cherry, with gentle hints of spice and a touch of forest floor. On the palate, this Burgundy Pinot Noir is light- to medium-bodied, with bright red fruit, fresh acidity and a nicely balanced, juicy feel. It finishes clean and softly textured, with a subtle earthy note that adds interest. A beautifully judged French red wine that’s approachable now and full of classic Burgundy character.

Top food pairings:

  • Roast chicken with thyme and garlic
  • Duck breast or pork loin
  • Mushroom and lentil dishes
Kate Says

"Raquillet’s wines always feel honest and well-judged, and this Bourgogne Rouge is no exception. It’s all about purity and balance – the kind of Pinot Noir you open without overthinking and just enjoy with good food."

Producer Info

Domaine François Raquillet is a long-established, family-run estate based in Mercurey, in the Côte Chalonnaise. With more than eleven generations of winemaking behind them, François Raquillet has focused on careful vineyard work, lower yields and restrained cellar practices since taking over in 1990. Today, he is joined by his daughter Jeanne, continuing the domaine’s reputation for producing refined, terroir-driven Burgundy wines.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Pinot Noir
  • Hand-harvested from around 30-year-old vines for ripe, expressive fruit
  • Gentle extraction to preserve purity and perfume
  • Fermented with careful temperature control
  • Aged for around 10 months in oak barrels, with approximately 25% new oak

Good to know:
