Tasting Notes

Voluptuous notes of old rose, cherry and raspberry. One the palate it is round with black cherry, toast and cocoa bean on firm with very fine tannins and liquorice on the finish. This wine is best after 10 years ageing, so this is drinking very well now. Over time the very balanced flavors have harmonized and are more on fruit and schistose and roasted notes, which give this wine a nice complexity.

Pair with roasted duck breast or beef.

Producer Info

In 1994, Stéphane Robert created the Domaine du Tunnel. It began with 2.5 ha of vines on the right bank of the Rhône, in Ardèche in the Cornas, Saint-Péray and Saint-Joseph appellations. The cellar is in the town center of Saint-Péray.To date, the vineyard covers 11 hectares, in the communes of Saint-Péray, Cornas, Glun, Mauves, Tournon sur Rhône and Chavanay. The cuvées are mainly vinified from old vines on hillsides or terraces, on granite soils.

Stéphane raises his wines with passion. He mainly uses barrels of 1 to 3 wines for his Cornas and Saint-Josephs. Depending on the cuvées and vintages, he may use new barrels or wooden vats. This diversity of high forest allows him to make adapted and precise breedings.

For this wine selection of grapes came form around fifteen plots (localities: Sauman, Combes, Côtes, Mazards, Cayret, Patou, Les Eygas, Champelrose.) Vinification and aging by plot for 14 months in barrels of 3 wines.
