Dom. Paul Prieur, Sancerre Blanc Mise d'Automne 2023

Get to know: Domaine Paul Prieur, Sancerre Blanc Mise d'Automne 2023

A serious, terroir-driven French white wine from the heart of Sancerre in the Loire Valley.

Tasting Note

Domaine Paul Prieur Sancerre Blanc Mise d'Automne is an elegant, complex expression of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc that shows a clear step up from the classic style. It’s a wine that rewards a little patience – give it some air and it really opens up. Pale gold in colour with aromas of ripe apple (including a gently bruised note), sour lemon, subtle spice and a distinctive savoury, saline edge that speaks clearly of its terroir. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with layered citrus, orchard fruit and a lightly smoky, mineral backbone typical of top Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The finish is long, textured and quietly powerful. This is a thoughtful, grown-up Loire Valley white wine with depth, precision and real character – one for confident wine drinkers rather than beginners.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled turbot or sea bass with beurre blanc
  • Roast chicken with lemon, thyme and sea salt
  • Mature goat’s cheese from the Loire
Kate Says

"This is Sancerre for people who love nuance and texture rather than just zingy freshness. Decant it, slow down, and let it tell its story – it’s absolutely worth the time."

Producer Info

Domaine Paul Prieur is one of the historic names of Sancerre, with an extraordinary 11 generations of winemaking behind it. Based in the village of Verdigny, at the foot of the Monts Damnés, the estate is now run by Luc Prieur and is fully organic. Working with multiple terroirs – limestone caillottes, terres blanches and silex soils along the Loire – the domaine is renowned for producing precise, expressive Sancerre wines that truly reflect their origins.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
  • Hand-harvested to preserve fruit integrity and terroir expression
  • Pneumatic pressing followed by gentle settling
  • Fermented with indigenous yeasts, no sulphur added before or during fermentation
  • Aged on full lees in stainless steel tanks for around 8 months (Mise d’Automne), bottled unfiltered
