Dom. Les 4 Vents, Les Pitchounettes Crozes-Hermitage 2023

Get to know: Dom. Les 4 Vents, Les Pitchounettes Crozes-Hermitage 2023

Tasting Note

A lovely juicy Crozes-Hermitage that’s all about fresh, lively fruit. Les Pitchounettes 2023 pours a deep red with a flicker of violet at the rim. On the nose, you get heaps of bright red berries – think raspberries and strawberries – with a little warm spice coming through. On the palate, it's vibrant and easy-drinking, bursting with jammy red fruits and a soft, herbal freshness. There's a lovely balance here: juicy but not heavy, lively without being sharp – a real charmer of a Syrah.

Try this with roasted Mediterranean veg, grilled chicken kebabs or lamb koftas on the barbecue or a nutty Comté or a crumbly Wensleydale.

Kate Says

"If you think Syrah has to be heavy and serious, Les Pitchounettes will change your mind. It’s really good, pure syrah, low intervention, and ridiculously easy to love. Put it in the fridge for half an hour – it’s even better lightly chilled."

Producer Info

Domaine Les 4 Vents is run by two sisters, Lucie Fourel and Nancy Cellier, who’ve brought a fresh, soulful energy to their family vines in Crozes-Hermitage. It all started when Lucie took over a small 3.5-hectare patch in 2006 after training across the Rhône, determined to farm organically and let the land speak for itself. Her sister Nancy joined her a few years later, and together they grew the estate to 10 hectares, renaming it after their great-grandparents’ old inn, Les 4 Vents (“The Four Winds”).

Everything they do is certified organic and biodynamic, just good old-fashioned respect for the land. For Les Pitchounettes, they keep it as natural as possible using indigenous yeasts for fermentation. No sulphur is added during fermentation, just a tiny touch before bottling to keep the wine stable.

The vines grow on sandy, stony soils with bits of clay scattered through, helping the grapes ripen with natural freshness rather than baking in the Rhône sun. All this careful work results in a wine that’s pure, joyful, and full of fruit, with a bit of that herbal, spicy lift that makes northern Rhône Syrah so special.
